Creating pages in Web Engine (Basic)

You will want to create pages to add your own unique content on a Web Engine site.

  • Under the Web module on the left sidebar menu, click on the title of the website. The page tree will open on the right.
  • Click on the Add page button at the top of the page tree.
    • Fill in the Title field.
    • Adjust the Slug field if needed. This becomes part of the URL.
    • Click the blue Create button.
  • Next, Select a Preset appears on the right. Review the list and see if the page you need is listed. Note: for websites using the ALPS design, when needing an "empty" page to add content to, use:

            A. ALPS - Centered content page or

            B. ALPS - Content Page with sidebar

This will provide default margins and spacing for different device widths. Using the "Empty" page requires a lot of configurations already set up under A and B above. Choose the preset by clicking on it and the preset is applied to the page. See below for how to Change preset. We recommend changing it as soon as possible, because the content you have created will be deleted.

  • The Page menu can be accessed by clicking the 3 vertical dots to the right of page title and gives the following options for working with the individual page:
    • Edit content: Access the page content to work on the page.
    • Page Settings: Access the configuration settings of the individual of the page.
    • Translations: Translate the content elements on the page. (see separate instructions)
    • Duplicate page: Make a copy of the current page.
    • Add subpage: create a child page below the selected page.
    • Set as homepage: Use with caution! This sets the selected page as the homepage of the website.
    • View online: View the page content in the frontend.
    • Change preset: Swap out the current preset page. Note: This removes any content on the page!
    • Hide page: Disable the page so it will no longer appear in the frontend.
    • Delete: Delete the page. Content is permanently deleted.
  • The Web module has a wide variety of Blocks to use for displaying content. The list of Blocks is located to the right of the page tree. Text, images, video and audio can be added to a webpage depending on blocks used and the modules activated in the Web Engine backend. You can begin to create content with the Basic blocks. Many other Blocks are available as you scroll down. Some blocks are already on the Preset and can be deleted if so desired. You can drag and drop others onto your page, usually into a box. A green line will appear where a block can be placed. Click on the colored bar at the top of a block to highlight it. Depending on your device width, there are gray tabs to Expand or Collapse the columns in the backend. Properties and Styles will appear to the right for you to customize the block. These are different for each Block so check what is available when you add a block. Separate instructions are available for Using the Rich Text Editor. Always be sure to Save your work on a block with the blue button on the upper right.
  • With the website page tree structure, multiple levels of pages can be created to develop the structure you desire. A menu is usually manually created, so the page tree structure does not have to mirror the menu. You can drag and drop pages or use subpages to create the structure of the website. A right arrow before a page title indicates that there are subpages. You can drag a page to a different location. When you see the blue line, let go of it and drop it there. You can drag a page to become a subpage. Once the blue line shows an indention on the left, it will become a subpage.
  • See separate instructions for Developing pages on the website which include Page settings, Page device widths and Basic Page layout. This topic can be very detailed and deep depending on the context of the website and the pages being worked on.

  • Once you have created some pages, you can go to the Creating menus in Web Engine instructions. *
